For the financial year 2022-23 (assessment year 2023-24), the income tax slabs for individual taxpayers in India are as follows:

  1. For individuals below 60 years of age:
    • Up to Rs. 2,50,000: No tax
    • Rs. 2,50,001 to Rs. 5,00,000: 5% of the income exceeding Rs. 2,50,000
    • Rs. 5,00,001 to Rs. 10,00,000: 20% of the income exceeding Rs. 5,00,000 + Rs. 12,500
    • Above Rs. 10,00,000: 30% of the income exceeding Rs. 10,00,000 + Rs. 1,12,500
  2. For individuals aged 60 years or above but below 80 years (senior citizens):
    • Up to Rs. 3,00,000: No tax
    • Rs. 3,00,001 to Rs. 5,00,000: 5% of the income exceeding Rs. 3,00,000
    • Rs. 5,00,001 to Rs. 10,00,000: 20% of the income exceeding Rs. 5,00,000 + Rs. 10,000
    • Above Rs. 10,00,000: 30% of the income exceeding Rs. 10,00,000 + Rs. 1,10,000
  3. For individuals aged 80 years or above (super senior citizens):
    • Up to Rs. 5,00,000: No tax
    • Rs. 5,00,001 to Rs. 10,00,000: 20% of the income exceeding Rs. 5,00,000
    • Above Rs. 10,00,000: 30% of the income exceeding Rs. 10,00,000

Additionally, a 4% Health and Education Cess is applicable on the income tax payable amount.
